A truly remarkable historic estate, Les Colombières, was extended and artistically reimagined in 1919 by Ferdinand Bac, grandson of Jérôme Napoléon and a celebrated artist, writer, and caricaturist of international renown. At this extraordinary property, Bac conceived a masterpiece that seamlessly blends
architecture, art, and landscape. The villa is set within the worldfamous “Garden of Happenings”, an extraordinary, landscaped composition inspired by Bac’s travels and imagination. This poetic and immersive garden unfolds through a series of carefully orchestrated scenes featuring fountains, pools, frescoes, statues, bridges, a mausoleum, an olive grove, and a dovecote — a unique dialogue between nature, art, and history.
Over the years, this exceptional estate has welcomed distinguished guests, including General Charles de Gaulle, as well as many prominent figures from the cultural and social elite of the Côte d’Azur. After the Second World War, the property was operated as a refined guesthouse and tea room, before being
officially classified as a Monument Historique in 1990. Acquired by the current owners in 1995, Les Colombières has since undergone a meticulous and respectful restoration, carried out in close collaboration with the French Ministry of Culture, ensuring the preservation of Ferdinand Bac’s original artistic vision
